Steve Harvey has received more than his fair share of criticism for his mistake at the Miss Universe pageant, where he crowned the wrong contestant the winner. At last night’s Golden Globes, Foxx decided to up the ante as he presented for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture award, for which scores from Creed, The Hateful Eight, Steve Jobs, Carol, and The Danish Girl were nominated.
Foxx looked deep into the crowd with his all jokes aside face and named F. Gary Gray‘s box office hit Straight Outta Compton the winner, even though the movie wasn’t even nominated. He then, with no hesitation, impersonated Harvey’s recoup, saying that it’s “right here on the card” and apologizing to “everybody in Compton.”
N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton” exceeds expectations and tops the U.S. box office last weekend with $60.2 million. The film, which tells the story of the legendary N.W.A. rap group, was originally projected to bring in closer to $25 million for its debut. However, the movie not only crushed that projection, it also more than doubled its production budget of $29 million.
The success of “Straight Outta Compton” represents a huge win for Hip Hop. As the culture takes strides toward gaining respect, “Compton” has the best selling R-rated movie opening ever. It appears that ticket sales will have a bigger impact than record sales on the genre this year.
This movie will surely go down as a classic, now sitting in the company of films like “Boyz n the Hood,” and “Menace II Society.”
“Straight Outta Compton” is definitely a must see, so do yourself a favor and be sure to check it out.
