ti-dope

T.I. is back with today’s release of his latest single and music video “Dope,” featuring Marsha Ambrosius, produced by Dr. Dre.  Tip lays down his lyrics easy like Sunday morning with the new track also sampling Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat.”   T.I. is fully aware of the potential greatness of this new song and the company this track keeps, rapping in the song’s first verse, “Truth is for real, feel like Dre and Pharrell / Mixed with Eric B and Rakim shorty, hell on a scale / And still the game enticing me, like every time I see her / They like to pop a seal, high enough to see Aaliyah.”

The video for “Dope” is currently exclusive to Tidal as his new album The Dime Trap is also expected to be. Earlier this year, Tip signed a distribution deal with Jay Z‘s Roc Nation and Tidal companies for the release of his forthcoming LP and tenth studio album.

It sounds like T.I. is coming back for his crown. Hit play below and let us know what you think.

[Hip Hop News Now] ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Tops Box Office Charts

LwoaE

N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton” exceeds expectations and tops the U.S. box office last weekend with $60.2 million. The film, which tells the story of the legendary N.W.A. rap group, was originally projected to bring in closer to $25 million for its debut. However, the movie not only crushed that projection, it also more than doubled its production budget of $29 million.

The success of “Straight Outta Compton” represents a huge win for Hip Hop. As the culture takes strides toward gaining respect, “Compton” has the best selling R-rated movie opening ever. It appears that ticket sales will have a bigger impact than record sales on the genre this year.

This movie will surely go down as a classic, now sitting in the company of films like “Boyz n the Hood,” and “Menace II Society.”

“Straight Outta Compton” is definitely a must see, so do yourself a favor and be sure to check it out.

[Hip Hop News Now] N.W.A. Biopic Trailer Features Intro By Dr. Dre and Ice Cube

N.W.A. is finally back, and this time on the big screen.  The legendary west coast supergroup will have their story told by Jonathan Herman and directed by F. Gary Gray.  The film is set to revolve around the rise and fall of the Compton, California rap group. Check out the synopsis below.

“In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A, Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.”

The trailer for this epic biopic features words from Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and also Kendrick Lamar.  The trio speak on the power that Hip Hop holds and how it ultimately gives oppressed societies strength and a voice that is hard to ignore.

N.W.A. may have seen their rise to stardom a few decades ago, but their message still hits home today. Racism, poverty, and oppression are still seen as challenges for today’s generation.  The game hasn’t changed, only the players have.

The cast includes  Eazy-E played by Jason Mitchell,  Ice Cube played by O’Shea Jackson Jr., Dr. Dre played by Corey Hawkins, MC Ren played by Aldis Hodge and DJ Yella played by Neil Brown Jr.  Paul Giamatti also has a role in the film as Jerry Heller aka the guy who ultimately broke up N.W.A.
