[Hot New Music!] Ave. Amen – The Ascension (A Keystone Story)

ascension cover 4

Keystone State artist Ave. Amen has recently delivered his second project of the year. The State College, Pennsylvania rep is yet another fine example of the area’s driven talent. His latest project is titled The Ascension (A Keystone Story) and it is some of the artist’s best work to date. Ave. does everything from his own audio mixing to editing his own videos, but being able to tell his story and the stories of those around him is where his true passion has led him. “I was in and out of prison since I was a juvenile and I’ve done two state bids, but coming home the last time after doing four years I was like (boom) I got to get focus, this is my passion,” said Ave, “I just like making music, so I started recording like three years ago. At first it was just freestyles and then it turned into serious writing.”

“I call the mixtape The Ascension, because it’s like the start to rise. Im going up and The Ascension is the beginning to where I’m going,” said Ave. “I feel like I’m finding my sound and this is the direction I’m going. This project here will lead into my next project. It’s a growing process.”

Ave. Amen is an artist who is still discovering his sound, however his music is influenced by artists like Jay Z, Boot Camp Clik, Heltah Skeltah, and newer artists like Kendrick Lamar and Lupe Fiasco. Check out his latest mixtape The Ascension (A Keystone Story) above and his video for “Thinking Out Loud” below.

“In order for Hip Hop to thrive here it needs to be relevant. People have to be entertained; it has to be the culture. A consistent culture and a consistent reflection of the culture, especially in places that aren’t in the city. There has to be consistency within it and there has to be healthy competition like with any sport. That’s what catches people’s eyes. That’s what makes people want to write blogs on it, make people start watching videos of local artists; when it becomes a healthy competition. But when you’re just down there by yourself shooting at the hoop, no one cares.”

Ave. Amen is doing him while at the same time putting on for his area. Peep his movement and stay tuned for more from this up & coming artist.

[Hot New Music!] Joel Kellem – Living Single EP (Stream & Download Here)

Living SinglePittsburgh emcee Joel Kellem is yet another fine example of the Steel City’s local Hip Hop scene. The 21-year old rap artist is making his impact on the city’s underground sound, and thanks to projects like his most recent, he will surely find the light at the end of the tunnel. Voted last year’s Pittsburgh Underground Music Award’s “Artist of the Year,” Kellem continues in his efforts to knock down the door that artists before him like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller opened. Days ago, Kellem, who is also known as The Chill God dropped a new EP entitled Living Single.

Living Single showcases a total of 9 tracks with not a single feature. Listeners are treated to what Joel describes as an exploration of his sound, ultimately taking his music to new heights. The Roscoe Wiki produced Living Single project features only one other producer by the name of Slomdug on the EP’s final track.

When asked to define his sound Joel stated, “It’s something you can listen to when you’re trying to vibe out, have a smoke session, or if you just want something to ride to. I feel like my music is just something cool and chill to fall back and listen to. If Adult Sim had a sound, it be me.” With that being said, there’s no smoke and mirrors when it comes to Joel (well, maybe a little bit of smoke). Being true to his music is very important to him. “I just like the effect that it has on people and the type of feeling you can give people. Being able to express how I feel and seeing who all relates to me or feels the same way that I do,” said Joel.

Chill God 1

Joel’s musical influences includes Currensy, Biggie, Snoop Dogg, and Pittsburgh’s Wiz Khalifa. The Hill District native is a proud Pittsburgh rep who hopes that the city’s artists will continue to band together to deliver their sound to the rest of the world. “Pittsburgh has a lot of talent, if more people started working together, more styles could be created, ya know…let’s create this Pittsburgh sound.”

Be sure to check out Joel Kellem’s Living Single EP below. “I’m really proud of this project. This was a really different kind of sound for me. I hooked up with Roscoe Wiki and we created something special. I was interested in seeing how people would respond,” said Chill God.
