Keystone State artist Ave. Amen has recently delivered his second project of the year. The State College, Pennsylvania rep is yet another fine example of the area’s driven talent. His latest project is titled The Ascension (A Keystone Story) and it is some of the artist’s best work to date. Ave. does everything from his own audio mixing to editing his own videos, but being able to tell his story and the stories of those around him is where his true passion has led him. “I was in and out of prison since I was a juvenile and I’ve done two state bids, but coming home the last time after doing four years I was like (boom) I got to get focus, this is my passion,” said Ave, “I just like making music, so I started recording like three years ago. At first it was just freestyles and then it turned into serious writing.”
“I call the mixtape The Ascension, because it’s like the start to rise. Im going up and The Ascension is the beginning to where I’m going,” said Ave. “I feel like I’m finding my sound and this is the direction I’m going. This project here will lead into my next project. It’s a growing process.”
Ave. Amen is an artist who is still discovering his sound, however his music is influenced by artists like Jay Z, Boot Camp Clik, Heltah Skeltah, and newer artists like Kendrick Lamar and Lupe Fiasco. Check out his latest mixtape The Ascension (A Keystone Story) above and his video for “Thinking Out Loud” below.
“In order for Hip Hop to thrive here it needs to be relevant. People have to be entertained; it has to be the culture. A consistent culture and a consistent reflection of the culture, especially in places that aren’t in the city. There has to be consistency within it and there has to be healthy competition like with any sport. That’s what catches people’s eyes. That’s what makes people want to write blogs on it, make people start watching videos of local artists; when it becomes a healthy competition. But when you’re just down there by yourself shooting at the hoop, no one cares.”
Ave. Amen is doing him while at the same time putting on for his area. Peep his movement and stay tuned for more from this up & coming artist.
