[Hot New Music!] Wiz Khalifa – “Electric Relaxation” (Phife Dawg Tribute)

wiz-khalifa-clears-the-air-0

Earlier this week the Hip Hop community took a huge loss with the passing of legendary Queens emcee Phife Dawg. Phife, a founding member of the super group A Tribe Called Quest, passed away due to complications stemming from his diabetes.  The entire Hip Hop community came together to mourn it’s loss once the news got out about Phife’s passing. Several artists decided to embrace the loss and take those feelings out in the studio, paying tribute to the gone-too-soon emcee.

One artist in particular was Pittsburgh’s Wiz Khalifa. Wiz, who can probably partially credit his laid back flow to Phife, has recently released a remix of A Tribe Called Quest’s classic, “Electric Relaxation.” Listen to the Steel City native’s version of the Hip Hop classic cut below. Also take note that Wiz is actually the second Pittsburgh emcee this week to pay tribute to Phife.  Former label mate and frequent collaborator Mac Miller dropped a Larry Fisherman tribute the very same day of Phife’s passing. You can also vibe to the Mac Miller tribute further below.

remy-ma-fat-joe

Fat Joe and Remy Ma had everybody leaning back just a little over ten years ago. Now that the duo is back on the scene after Remy’s stint in incarceration, the emcees are planning to release a joint project titled, Platas o Plamo. The first single from the project has already been gifted to us. The track features a third Empire State rep, French Montana, and it’s titled “All The Way Up,” produced by Miami producer Edsclusive.

The new track definitely has the potential to be an early summer banger just like 2004’s “Lean Back”. No way to tell yet if “All The Way Up” will be another chart topper for Fat Joe & Remy Ma, but only time will tell and by adding a hot artist like French Montana we are sure to hear this track for weeks months to come. Listen to the new single below.

Philadelphia rapper Gillie Da Kid is back with a certified banger titled “Im Da Man” featuring Baton Rouge native Boosie Badazz. Now the “King of Philly” is back to follow up that album with some heat for these winter days.

There is surely more to come from Gillie as the buzz surrounding him gets louder with each day that passes. More singles, probably a new mixtape, and possibly a new album. [Hip Hop News Now] The Introduction of Pennsylvania Emcee J-Remedy

Screen Shot 2016-02-11 at 6.59.23 PM

Brooklyn born emcee J-Remedy has found his strength through his struggles and is now using that same strength to make power moves. With that being said, J-Remedy has a story to tell. As a youth, J along with his sibling, was taken into custody by the state of New York and placed in an orphanage. From there, the siblings relocated to Pennsylvania with their maternal grandmother in hopes of gaining some stability and ultimately a better life.

Unfortunately for J-Remedy things did not get any easier for him as the troubled teen served several years in a youth institution and later state penitentiaries. After his release, J found solace in rapping. However, it wasn’t until he found himself as a single father of three that he took rapping seriously. “My children became my motivation to succeed,” said J-Remedy. “You hear that from a lot of people and it’s real cliché, but that’s totally the truth of my situation. I do this because I want to give them a better life, and hustling aint it.”

With a new focus created just three short years ago, J-Remedy has already opened up for multiple Hip Hop acts such as Cassidy and Fred The Godson. This weekend J is set to open up for Slaughterhouse emcee Joe Budden. The event is presented by his YNR team, Elegant Hoodness, and Cashout Casper. Details to the show can be found below on the event flyer.

Recently J-Remedy was awarded the Elegant Hoodness Musical Program Award for Entrepreneur of the Year. He was nominated with candidates from all across the country. “This meant a lot to me. That’s like a super dope award, because entrepreneur to me is hustling, working hard, grinding and that’s what I’ve been doing for these last three years. So to win that award and be acknowledged for it, when a lot of people can’t really see the work that I’m putting in. Ya know, that’s really a dope feeling,” said J.

“For the last three years the struggles that I had to endure to get this award is crazy,” said J-Remedy, “I was sleeping in my car for about three months, I was homeless. My kids had to go stay with my family and I had to sleep in the streets in my car with no money. Somehow I had to find a way to continue to chase this dream and build my brand. It was honestly stupid the way I went about it, but it was because I believed in myself and I knew that if I could invest this money and time in myself that it was going to turn out good. And that’s what it has been doing lately, which is the craziest part of it all.”

J-Remedy’s musical sound described by him is, “Raw, gritty, and very east coast.” “I was influenced by a lot of east coast Hip Hop, that’s what I love. Cassidy, The Lox, Big Pun, Biggie…east coast rap is what I thrived off and listen to the most,” said J.

Check out some of J-Remedy’s most recent singles, “Drill Time Remix” and “Just A Moment,” below. Keep one eye open and an ear to the streets and I’m sure you will hear J-Remedy’s name again. Be on the lookout for his feature in XXL later this month. “The goal is simple,” said J-Remedy, “It’s to keep grinding.”

The new track is already one of the biggest hits of Drake’s career and his highest debut since 2011’s “Take Care” duet with Rihanna.  Stream “Summer Sixteen” below and keep one eye open for the premiere of Drake & Rihanna’s “Work” video.
